Irene Kosturakis

Irene Kosturakis is Area Vice President – Intellectual Property at BMC Software, Inc., where she is responsible for all intellectual property matters, including patent acquisition, development, and maintenance of the patent and trademark portfolios, patent litigation, copyrights, intellectual property transactions, and intellectual property due diligence for the Company’s mergers and acquisitions. Irene Kosturakis came to BMC in 2006 with over 16 years of experience handling intellectual property issues at Hewlett-Packard Company and Compaq Computer Corporation. At HP, she supported the Industry Standard Servers business unit on intellectual property legal issues. While at Compaq, Irene managed the development of the Company’s patent portfolio into a robust and assertable patent portfolio, and during the Compaq-Digital merger, Irene successfully merged the patent portfolios of the two companies and helped create an IP holding company for Compaq. Irene is a registered patent attorney and is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas. Irene has a Masters of Law in Intellectual Property from the University of Houston, a J.D. from South Texas College of Law, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso. Outside of BMC, Irene is an adjunct professor at South Texas College of Law for its International Business Transactions course. She is the Chair of the State Bar of Texas’s (SBOT’s) Business Law Section (BLS), and a member of the Houston Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), the Houston Intellectual Property Inn of Court, and the Houston Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (HIPLA). In addition to her membership in the SBOT’s BLS, Irene is a member of the SBOT’s Intellectual Property Law Section. In support of pro bono, she is a sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a Houston Volunteer Lawyer. She was president of the Houston Chapter of ACC for the 2007-2008 year, and that year, the Houston Chapter received the Chapter of the Year Award from national ACC. In September 2014, Irene was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Houston Chapter of the ACC.
